Regional Connect: Mullewa

Mullewa information

Mullewa is located in the City of Greater Geraldton, 98 kilometres east of the Geraldton township in the Mid West Region. Mullewa district spans approximately 415km² and is home to around 450 people.

The district's power is provided by rural long feeder GTN 666. There are approximately 1059 connections serviced by this feeder.

Why was Mullewa chosen as a target area?

The feeder lines being upgraded as part of the Regional Connect program were chosen based on a detailed multi-criteria assessment. This analysis incorporated numerous factors, including:

  • Customers experiencing a high number of long unplanned outages
  • Challenging environmental conditions
  • Diverse community needs
  • Opportunities to improve the feeder.

Proposed works

The Mullewa proposed improvements works, as shown on the map below, are aimed at improving reliability and reducing the length of outages. The scope of works includes:

  • Installing more protection devices to isolate faults; and
  • Improving the automation and control of the electricity network.

While these network upgrades may seem minor in isolation, they will complement other work other work underway in the area improving the overall feeder reliability and safety.
