Regional Connect: Dalwallinu

Dalwallinu information

The Shire of Dalwallinu is located 250km northeast of Perth on the Great Northern Highway, located within the Shire of Dalwallinu. The area has a population of around 1,400 people covering an area of around 7,200 square kilometres.

Dalwallinu power is provided by rural long feeder MOR 610. There are approximately 853 connections to this feeder.

Why was Dalwallinu chosen as a target area?

The feeder lines being upgraded as part of the Regional Connect program were chosen based on a detailed multi-criteria assessment. This analysis incorporated numerous factors, including:

  • Customers experiencing a high number of long unplanned outages
  • Challenging environmental conditions
  • Diverse community needs
  • Opportunities to improve the feeder.

Scope of works

The Dalwallinu proposed improvement works, as shown on the map below, are aimed at improving reliability and reducing the length of outages. The scope of works includes:

  • Installation of protection devices and switches to improve network flexibility, reduce the size of outage areas, and speed up fault-finding
  • Improve remote automation ability.

While these network upgrades may seem minor in isolation, they will complement other work underway in the area, improving the overall feeder reliability and safety.
